In Ward 8, where residents have long pushed for stronger access to fresh, affordable food, The Well at Oxon Run is preparing to reopen for its 2026 growing season on March 24 after a landmark year.
In 2025, The Well at Oxon Run distributed 7,261 pounds of fresh produce directly to neighbors and processed 2,915 pounds of food waste for compost. Additionally, along with its partners, The Well offered 170 hours of free health and wellness programs, such as art therapy, sound and forest bathing, yoga, and cooking classes.
Located at 300 Valley Ave SE and operated by DC Greens, The Well at Oxon Run is a cornerstone for community-powered food access and wellness in Ward 8. More than a farm, The Well at Oxon Run serves as a gathering space where residents grow food, build skills, attend programming, and shape their own solutions to food inequity.
“We’re not just growing vegetables — we’re fostering connection, expanding knowledge, and creating shared ownership of our local food system,” says Charles Rominiyi, manager of The Well at Oxon Run. “In communities where grocery options are limited, spaces like The Well at Oxon Run expand access to fresh and nutritious food.”

The season opening March 24–28 features a week of free, hands-on activities designed to welcome the community back to the farm. Programs include a Coffee and Farm Walk for visitors to tour the property and learn what’s ahead for the season, a fig tree workshop for participants interested in growing their own fig trees, and a monthly Wellness Market Day that includes programs focused on food and nutrition, environmental education, exercise, art, and more. Volunteer shifts are also available across the week for adults and youth eager to dig in the soil and help the farm with spring planting.
The Well at Oxon Run will operate through October, offering free programming, volunteer opportunities, and seasonal harvest days for community members. Public programming and volunteer shifts take place on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. Specific event times and volunteer shift sign-ups are available at dcgreens.org.
“The Well’s reopening is more than the start of a new growing season,” says Rominiyi. “It marks another year of neighbors working together to ensure that fresh food and green space remain within reach for Ward 8 families.”
