Family Garden Snack Lab: How Fruits, Roots, and Leaves Nourish Us

Join DC Greens at The Well at Oxon Run (300 Valley Ave SE) for a hands-on family session exploring how different parts of plants help nourish our bodies! “Family Garden Snack Lab” is part of DC Greens’ ongoing Food Is Medicine workshop series.

This class will start with a short, interactive lesson on edible plant parts such as roots, stems, leaves, flowers, fruits, and seeds, and how each supports our health. Families will then head into the garden at The Well at Oxon Run for a fun scavenger hunt, where they will find and harvest what is growing on site. Using the produce collected along the way, we will then create a healthy smoothie that combines a variety of plant parts.

At the end of the class, each family will receive a kid-safe knife to take home and continue practicing their cooking skills! And every family who attends for the full session will be entered to win a $100 Visa gift card!

This class is FREE and open to children and adults of all ages. To ensure maximum fun for all, registration is limited to 10 households per class (up to 2 adults and 3 children per household welcome). Registration is required in order to attend.

NOTE: A film crew will be on site during this event. By registering, you consent to having your image/likeness captured and used for promotional purposes for DC Greens. If any children are accompanying you, you will be given the option of putting a sticker on your child’s shirt to indicate that you do not want your child’s face captured in video footage.
