“Meet the Bees: The Beekeeper’s Toolkit” with Diaspora Honey
Build up your beekeeping toolkit with a workshop led by beekeeping experts!
Join Diaspora Honey for a workshop to meet the bees at The Well at Oxon Run, DC Greens’ community farm and wellness space. This workshop is part of a series led by Diaspora Honey across the 2025 season at The Well at Oxon Run, with each workshop offering new and different education insight into the life of bees. This workshop, “The Beekeeper’s Toolkit,” participants will handle smokers, hive tools, and wooden frames. They will also learn seasonal hive‑care rhythms, and build a mini comb at the “Build‑A‑Frame” station.
About the Facilitator
Diaspora Honey is a Black-owned, veteran-led urban beekeeping and sustainability studio based in Temple Hills, MD. They manage healthy honey bee colonies around the D.C. metro area, bottle raw hyper-local honey, and turn every hive into a curiosity‑lab that connects communities to pollinators, food systems, and land stewardship.
Safety Notice:
The team at Diaspora Honey are experts at managing bees. There will be live bees during the workshop, and they will be visible through a protective structure where only Diaspora Honey staff will enter. Not all workshops in this series will have the example hive. If you are allergic to bees, we advise you sign up with caution and bring any/all medical supplies you may need to ensure your safety.
This workshop is free and open to adults and children ages 8 and up. Children 17 and younger must be accompanied by an adult 25 or older.
