Meet the Bees: Sustainable Beekeeping & Community Reflection
The final wrap-up of “Meet The Bees”
Close out the season with a celebration of community, sustainability, and everything learned across a full year of pollinator education. The observation hive takes on new meaning this month as participants notice signs of slowing activity, sparking a conversation about how bees prepare for seasonal change and how beekeepers support their colonies through the transition. The session also explores broader ecological practices — native bee support, habitat creation, and eco-friendly approaches to both beekeeping and gardening.
To wrap up the program, participants choose their own take-home project: building a small bee hotel from recycled materials or rolling native seed bombs to plant in their own outdoor spaces.
This class is free and open to ages 8+. Children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Registration is required.
About the Facilitator
This class will be led by Moe the Beekeper of Diaspora Honey. Diaspora Honey is a Black-owned, veteran-led urban beekeeping and sustainability studio based in Temple Hills, MD. There will be live bees during the workshop, and they will be visible through a protective structure where only Diaspora Honey staff will enter.
