DC Greens has been awarded a $20,000 grant from the Rotary Foundation of Washington, D.C. to support infrastructure improvements at The Well at Oxon Run, the organization’s one-acre community farm and wellness space in Ward 8.

The funding will be used to refresh the pathway system that connects The Well’s growing areas, composting site, outdoor classrooms, and community gathering spaces. The improvements will improve the site’s hospitality and operational efficiency while helping protect soil health and strengthen the site’s environmental sustainability.

“Ward 8 residents desire welcoming spaces where they can connect with healthy food, nature, and one another,” says The Well at Oxon Run Manager, Charles Rominiyi. “We are immensely grateful to the Rotary Foundation of Washington, D.C. for investing in the infrastructure that makes this work possible.”

Located in Southeast D.C., The Well at Oxon Run serves as a hub for urban agriculture, environmental education, community gathering, and food access programming. The site hosts volunteer opportunities, educational workshops, wellness activities, and fresh produce distribution throughout the growing season, which runs annually from March through October.

The pathway improvements will help ensure that visitors can more easily navigate the site. In addition, the project will improve drainage, reduce erosion, and better protect surrounding growing areas and plantings.

“By improving the site’s infrastructure, we’re creating a more welcoming environment while supporting the sustainable agricultural practices that help our community thrive,” says Rominiyi.
