Dominique Hazzard is Governance Chair of the DC Greens board and Assistant Professor of African American & African Studies at the University of Minnesota. Their research and public history projects explore Black environmental thought, Black social movements, and the afterlives of slavery in the U.S. food system. Dominique lives between Minneapolis and D.C., where they are a proud second-generation resident of Anacostia.
Hazzard has worked to build food justice in D.C. for over a decade. As a former DC Greens employee, Hazzard managed community engagement, organized the 2017 Grocery Walk, and helped jumpstart the organization’s racial equity journey. She co-curated the award-winning exhibition, Food for the People: Eating and Activism in Greater Washington at the Smithsonian Anacostia Community Museum.
Hazzard currently serves as Manager of the Fort Stanton Community Garden. She is a Bill Emerson National Hunger Fellowship alumna, a Harry S. Truman Scholar, and a graduate of Wellesley College and the Johns Hopkins University. In her spare time, Hazzard enjoys growing heirloom vegetables and watching cringe reality dating television.
