In December, Mayor Bowser announced intentions to use funds committed to thousands of D.C. residents for the partial funding of Give SNAP a Raise (GSaR) in order to cover budget gaps elsewhere. We do not agree with this decision and join other community advocates and organizations in urging the Mayor’s office to reconsider this decision and make good on the promise of the GSaR partial funding.

Those facing barriers to food access feel the crunch every time they go to the grocery store, and costs are only going up. Seniors should not have to wonder where their next meal will come from. Families should not struggle to feed their children. Everyone deserves access to nutritious food.

Advocacy around the GSaR partial funding continues and we urge you to get involved. You can read more about the Mayor’s decision here, and read the recent letter from D.C. Councilmembers to Mayor Bowser urging her to reconsider here. We will continue to update the DC Greens community on the SNAP benefits funding decision as information becomes available.
