School Garden Market Program

Through their School Garden Market Program, DC Greens connects students across the district with with fresh, local fruits and veggies. By purchasing  and distributing affordable produce to schools, the program enables schools to hold weekly student run farmers markets in the spring and fall. Many of the schools supplement their markets with produce from their own gardens, and at some schools the produce has even found its way into the cafeteria!

The School Garden Market Program also gives schools the opportunity to introduce their kids to local food systems. Many schools pair their Markets with harvesting and cooking classes as well other enrichment activities. The students running the market also gain valuable leadership and higher level thinking skills.

The spring 2018 Orientation will take place on March 29th at DC Greens’ office. If you interested in starting a market at your school, contact Lea Howe at or (202) 601-9200 x205.
