Schools! If you are interested in having an intern for the Fall, please fill out this form.

Through our program, undergraduate and graduate students from the DC area are matched with garden coordinators in need of assistance 5-15 hours per week. The role of the intern will vary from school to school. A school with a full-time or part-time garden coordinator who is teaching regular classes in the garden may need the intern to assist with managing the groups in the garden, or with garden maintenance. A school with a teacher whose extra duty is coordinating the garden program may need an intern to help with outreach, program development or fundraising.

Once matched, the garden coordinator and the intern will work together to best decide the structure and duties of the internship based on the skills of the intern and the needs of the garden program. Interns will be required to attend a one-day training prior to the start of their internship and will convene monthly as a group. In addition, Garden Coordinators will be required to hold an orientation for the intern prior to the start of the internship.

Some possible intern tasks may include:

  • garden maintenance, watering, weeding, etc.
  • assisting with lessons in the garden
  • planning garden celebrations, events
  • fundraising
  • program development/evaluation
  • administrative tasks
  • graphic design (events flyers, etc)
  • coordinating volunteers and work days
  • photographing garden activities
