Stoddert Garden Community Planting Day April 23, 2011
DC Greens partnered with the Stoddert Elementary PTA, administration, and Whole Foods Market to design, implement and maintain a 4,000 square foot curriculum garden on the new grounds of the Stoddert Elementary School. The garden features a recycled-bottle greenhouse, an outdoor classroom and a sizable plot of garden land for edible and native plants. It also is graced by an entryway designed by Patrick Dougherty. To follow the progress of the Stoddert Garden, visit the Stoddert Garden blog! Funds to build the garden were generated from the 2010 Glover Park-Burleith Farmers’ Market, a Whole Foods 5% Day, and a Building Healthy Communities Home Depot grant. Whole Foods has signed on to ‘adopt’ the garden and will be providing support along with DC Greens into the future.
