Cooking with Kids
Cooking is an essential part of cultivating healthy and engaged young eaters. It exposes kids to unfamiliar fruits and vegetables. It invites a discussion on food production practices from seed to table. It helps kids understand how raw ingredients become healthy meals served in the cafeteria.
DC Greens’ Cooking with Kids program creates a kitchen in the classroom.
Through hour long, hands-on lessons DC Greens engages 3rd – 8th grade students with seasonal ingredients to prepare healthy, affordable recipes while having a conversation on larger food system concepts such as plant parts and life cycles, food webs, animals in agriculture, and the impact of our food choices on the environment. DC Greens provides all cooking materials and ingredients.
